I REFER to the criticism of the new road markings in Oosbosch Street in Paarl.
I have been using this specific road for about 25 years, mostly on a daily basis, and the only confusing thing to me was why do people always queue in the left hand lane, while the road width is more than ample to use it as two lanes.
Fact is the number of vehicles don’t grow more or less by going single or double lane. If you go right and another vehicle wants to turn right ahead of you, you simply wait your turn before proceeding, or as I often do, yield for somebody on your right, battling to enter Oosbosch from Alkmaar Street.
Have you ever experienced the smile of the guy being yielded for? It makes my day regularly.
The only ingredients to be added to this “conundrum” are common sense, patience and a little bit of road user common decency.
Thumbs up to the Drakenstein Municipality for sorting this conundrum out for me.
