THE first cricket team of Paarl Boys’ High is on its way to compete in the finals of the National Schools T20 competition which will take place in Potchefstroom this weekend.
Last week they beat Rondebosch BHS in a T20 match to decide the Western Cape winners.
An innings of 39 by Hanno Kotze helped Boys’ High achieve a respectable 128 for 6 and some tight bowling, led by Jean-Luc du Plessis with 3 for 16, left Rondebosch 14 short.
They will be representing the Cape Cobras franchise and will play against the Dolphins, Titans, Lions and Warriors from Friday to Saturday.
The final will take place on Sunday 19 February.
Each provincial school winner receives R30 000 for cricket development, with regional winners being awarded R60 000 for their efforts.
The winning school of the national final will then receive an additional R30 000, making their final cash prize R100 000.
* Last weekend the Boys’ High’s squash team played a tournament in Bloemfontein, beating Grey College, Selborne and Westville and drawing with Menlopark.
